You are ready to start the day by venturing out into the world. Before you leave the house, however, you want to know what the weather will be like outside. Is it going to rain? Will it snow? Will it be sunny? To answer these questions and more, just turn to your iPhone or Apple Watch and check out Apple’s built-in Weather app.
Designed for iOS and watchOS (sorry, there is no version for the iPad), Apple’s Weather app can give you as much information as you need about current conditions and the latest forecast. You can see the forecast for the coming day as well as for the next nine days. The app displays the forecast for your current location, but you can add other cities and regions of the world to find out about air quality, humidity, wind conditions, risk of rain, etc.
With iOS 15, the app sports a dynamic new design that changes based on current weather conditions. A new set of weather maps will highlight precipitation, air quality and temperature. You can even set up notifications to be alerted if it’s snowing or raining. And with watchOS 8, the app can now display alerts about severe weather conditions and due precipitation in the coming hour.
Update your device
First, update your iPhone to iOS 15 or later if you haven’t already. Go to Settings> General> Software update. You will be told that iOS is up to date or you will be prompted to download and install the latest update.
Grant access to location data
Before opening the Weather app, make sure it has access to your current location so that it can give you local weather conditions. Go to Settings> Weather> Location and make sure Location Access is set to When using the app, When using the app or widgets, Where Always.
You can then turn the switch on or off to Precise location. Disabling this switch may better preserve your privacy, but may result in less accurate weather information. On the main weather settings screen, you can also toggle between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
Display weather data
When you open the Weather app, you will see the weather forecast for your current location by default. Swipe the top section to see the hourly forecast for the next 12 hours. Swipe down to see the forecast for today and the next nine days.
Further down the screen you will find a report on the current air quality in your area. Faucet See more for specific information on health and pollutants.
The next section shows a small map of the current temperature. To go further, press See more. The map shows the current temperature for your location. Tap any area of the map to display the temperature gauge at the top left. The gauge shows the approximate temperature of an area based on its color on the map. You can move around freely, zoom in and zoom out on the map to view other locations.
To view a precipitation map, tap the three-square icon at the top right and select Precipitation. The map runs an animation showing precipitation for the next 12 hours.
To view an air quality map, tap the three-square icon at the top right and select Air quality. Tap the map to display the air quality gauge to see the quality of a specific area.
Swipe down to see UV Index readings, sunset and sunrise times, wind direction and speed, precipitation, felt temperature, humidity, visibility and atmospheric pressure.
If you scroll to the bottom of the app’s main screen, you’ll find links for more information. Tap the Weather Channel icon to view the weather.com forecast. Tap Breezometer to open a page on local air quality and pollen.
Add multiple locations
If you want to add more locations, swipe right on the main screen. By default, the app has the weather for Cupertino and New York, but you can remove them and add other locations.
Tap the bullet icon at the bottom right to view the currently available locations. Press the Settings icon at the top right then select Edit List. To delete an existing city, press its minus button and confirm the deletion.
To add a city or region, enter its name or airport in the search box at the top. Select the correct location from the search results. On the city screen, tap Add to add it to your list.
Edit the list of cities from the Location screen. To delete a city, swipe left on its entry and tap the Garbage can icon. To rearrange the list, tap and drag a city entry up or down.

View weather data on Apple Watch
The watchOS version of Apple’s Weather app provides roughly the same information that is available in the iOS edition. First update to watchOS 8 or higher if you haven’t already. To do this, open the Watch app on your iPhone. Go to General> Software update. You will be notified that your Apple Watch is up to date or you will be prompted to download and install the latest update.
Then open the app on your watch to see your current location temperature as well as expected highs and lows for the day. Press the Display option at the top to toggle between displaying temperature, condition and precipitation.
Tap your location entry, then tap the screen to scroll through the forecast temperature for the rest of the day, forecast conditions, and forecast precipitation.
Swipe down to view air quality, UV index, wind speed, and forecast conditions and temperatures for the next nine days.
Add multiple locations on Apple Watch
You can add other locations to the app from the main weather screen. Press the Add a city , then write the name of the city or location you want to find, or tap the microphone icon and say the location name. In the search results, tap the name of a location to add it to the list.
To delete a location, swipe left and tap the Wipe off icon. Any cities you add or remove through the iPhone app or Apple Watch app will automatically sync with the app on the other device.
