CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Northern Mindanao Regional Police Office (PRO-10) sent greetings to the public on Friday in hopes of a peaceful Christmas season despite the global pandemic and the recent onslaught of Typhoon Odette.

Brig. General Benjamin Acorda Jr., director of PRO-10, said in his video post on Facebook that the police force will continue to “render the greatest service, the greatest dedication, to the community despite the pandemic.”

He also sent his greetings to those affected by Typhoon Odette, as some police units in the area have been deployed to collect and distribute relief supplies in northern Mindanao and Caraga, both heavily affected by the weather disturbances.

Acorda said in a recent media forum that the PRO-10 has already been on “red alert” since the beginning of this month.

However, he clarified that the color code does not necessarily mean an aggressive response against armed groups, but rather a level of alert that requires increased vigilance for the safety of civilians.

“(We impose) the red alert almost every year just to maximize not only armed threats (against civilians) but also on gatherings like ‘Simbang Gabi’ (dawn mass) and other activities with mass rallies. We have to be on guard, “he said.

Acorda also said the deployment of police units is in “full use”, requiring a “full presence” of its staff.

Responsible use of firearms

Col. Aaron Mandia, director of the Cagayan de Oro Town Police Office (COCPO), also said in a previous interview that he was confident that all police personnel would abide by the rule prohibiting indiscriminate shooting during this period. holidays.

“It’s a question of mentality, if possible they shouldn’t carry (the guns when not on duty),” he said.

In previous years, police firearms were ordered to muzzle to prevent incidents of indiscriminate fire that could result in injury or death to civilians.

Police here have urged the public to report such indiscriminate shooting incidents.

Meanwhile, COCPO Police Stations 1, 3 and 5 were named as the three child-friendly stations by the local government here at the “Oro Kasanag Awards” on Thursday evening.

All three stations received the two-star Satisfactory Performance award, while Station 1 received two other awards for Best Kid-Friendly Space and Most Kid-Friendly Initiative.

Police Station 5 also received a special award for Best Coronavirus Disease Response Unit 2019.

By the end of the year, COCPO also recorded the highest Crime Solution Efficiency (CSE) among all cities and provinces in northern Mindanao, according to the Regional Detective Investigation and Management Division.

COCPO recorded an CES rate of 61.68% from January to December 2021, with 301 of 488 crimes solved and 153 cases closed. (ANP)
