What is GETTR? Trump Team Launches New Social Media App, Internet Says ‘GUTTR’ Fits Better

A new social media platform, GETTR, launched by former President Donald Trump’s team is creating a buzz on Twitter. Trump’s team presented it as an alternative to the Big Five. The site is known to be familiar to Twitter.

Former Trump spokesman Jason Miller is reportedly running the site. GETTR announced its mission statement as “Combat Cancellation Culture, Promote Common Sense, Defend Free Speech, Challenge Social Media Monopolies and Create a True Market of Ideas”. The launch of a new social media platform is widely seen as Trump’s latest attempt to get back into the social media whirlwind and be able to interact with his base online after being permanently banned from Twitter and suspended from Facebook.

The extent of Trump’s involvement in the project is unclear at this time. It is also known whether or not he will create an account on GETTR and use it. Although his closeness to Miller suggests he could use it to his advantage to reconnect with his online base, according to reports. Trump has been looking for other ways to reconnect with his online base. His earlier efforts to engage online, via starting a professional blog, came to a terrible end amid widespread ridicule and poor readership.

What is GETTR?

GETTR is considered one of the most prominent projects in a larger ecosystem of pro-MAGA tech and social media platforms. They are largely fueled by the ideology that Big Tech is trying to silence conservative and pro-Trump ideology from being broadcast online. Recently, it was reported that Trump’s team were looking for a platform to reestablish their online presence, either by buying a business and renaming it as its exclusive platform, or becoming a raffle.

GETTR first went live on Google and Apple app stores in mid-June and was last updated on Wednesday, June 30. It has been downloaded over a thousand times on each one. A description of GETTR on the app stores claims that it is an “unbiased social network for people all over the world.” The app is rated “M” which means it is recommended for users 17 and over. GETTR’s user interface looks similar to Twitter’s. Initial promotional material for GETTR on app stores showed user posts celebrating the House of Representatives no longer demanding masks on the bedroom floor. The initial trending topics on the app featured the hashtags “#trump”, “#virusorigin”, “#nra” and “#unrestrictedbioweapon”.

Only time will tell if GETTR succeeds or not. The last attempt by the Trump team to reproduce their Twitter feed was a site called “From The Desk of Donald Trump”. It was a blog that was barely receiving web traffic and closed less than a month later.

“They might as well have called him MOLESTR”

People have flooded Twitter with hilarious reactions to Trump’s launch of an “alternative to Twitter.” The user wrote: “The Trump team, via Jason Miller, has launched a new social media platform, called GETTR, and calls it an alternative site that promotes ‘common sense’. know when you’ll stop laughing.) I won’t. link to this one – that would only help promote it. Also, GET IT ??? REALLY ??? ” Another commented: “Serial sexual predator Donald Trump is releasing the GETTR app. He doesn’t even try to hide it anymore.” One tweet read: “#GETTR GETTR will be another failed Trump business to pile on top of others including Trump University, Trump Steaks and Trump Shuttle on a long laundry list.”

One person tweeted: “So two sexual predators, Donald Trump and @JasonMillerinDC are launching a social platform and calling it GETTR, ‘Get Her?’ Sounds fair.” Another tweet read, “GETTR? They might as well have named their ap MOLESTR.” One user tweeted, “Instead of GETTR, I personally think GUTTR would have been a better choice, you know with all the crap that’s going to flow on this platform. “
